I recently completed my first Medical Medium Cleanse. I chose to do the Advanced 3.6.9 version from Anthony William's Cleanse to Heal book.

This post shares why I decided to do the Advanced 3.6.9, a brief summary of the protocol, some tips on how to prepare, my day-by-day experiences, final thoughts, and a free download.

Let's get started.

Why I chose to do the cleanse

I had been wanting to do a Medical Medium 3.6.9 cleanse for several weeks. I read the Cleanse to Heal book and was intrigued. My biggest goal was simply to feel better. Some of my symptoms included general fatigue, brain fog, hair loss, extra belly fat, occasional swelling under one eye, and intermittent rashes on my forehead.

The Cleanse to Heal book includes a lot of information and several different cleanses. I chose to do the Advanced 3.6.9 option for a few personal reasons. I intuitively felt it was the one my body needed. I also thought I could manage it because of how I already eat. My diet is vegan, gluten-free, and I rarely drink alcohol or coffee. Spoiler alert, I will be humbled. On this note, I recommend reading through each cleanse in the book and choosing the one that resonates most with you right now.

If you decide to do the Advanced 3.6.9, read on for my experience and what I hope are helpful tips and discoveries.

A brief summary of the Advanced 3.6.9 cleanse

The author refers to the 3.6.9 Cleanse as the 'Life Protector'. It's meant to improve your health on a deep level. There are 3 versions - the Original, the Simplified, and the Advanced. Each consists of 9 days total, divided into 3 phases; days 1-3, days 4-6, and days 7-9; hence the name 3.6.9.

Days 1-3 prepare your body for the cleanse. From days 4-6, internal cleansing begins. And during days 7-9, the liver lets go of held toxins.

The Advanced version is completely raw and vegan, without additives (no oils, added sugar, salt, seasonings, or packaged foods). Each phase includes a meal plan that changes slightly from the previous phase. Day 9 is all juices and purees.

Every day is clearly laid out in the book. There are some substitutions for most of the recipes in case you don't like, tolerate, or can't source a certain fruit or vegetable.

How to prepare for the Advanced 3.6.9 cleanse

Doing the cleanse is a MAJOR commitment. The food prep is EPIC. It takes a lot of time to gather, make, consume, and clean up. It's also expensive. Our grocery bills for 2 people over the 9 days were significantly higher than usual. If you're well prepared, the cleanse itself is doable (see my day-by-day experiences and final thoughts below).

There is much you can do to make your cleanse easier. Here are some of my tips:

Read through the Advanced cleanse and get familiar with the recipes.

Have the tools you need. We used our Vitamix blender and Magic Bullet mini juicer every day.

Consider weaning yourself off of foods you can't have. For example, added sugars, chocolate, coffee, Matcha (sad face), soda, etc. Ease yourself into the cleanse.

Know ahead of time where you'll get all of your organic fruits and vegetables. Conventional (sprayed) fruits and vegetables will only add to your liver's toxic load.

Purchase any supplements you plan to take to complement the cleanse. These are optional. You can learn more in Part VI of the book. All supplements must be organic and naturally derived. After much research, we chose these exact supplements for their high quality and purity: vitamin B12, vitamin C, zinc, spirulina powder, and barley grass juice powder.

Create a complete grocery list for each phase (i.e., days 1-3, days 4-6, days 6-9). I recommend you shop for each phase of the cleanse separately. This helps with keeping track of what you have, ensures food is fresh, and that it all fits in your fridge. It's an overwhelming amount of celery alone, not to mention apples! I created a free download to help you with this step. You can find it at the end of this post.

For easier planning and prep, I chose to repeat the same meals for each phase. Meaning, for days 1-3, I consumed the same things for breakfast, snack 1, lunch, snack 2, and dinner. Same for days 4-6, and then 7-8. As mentioned, day 9 is all juices and purees. You can see the specific list of what I ate in each phase coming up in the next section.

Do day 9 on a slow home-based day. It's A LOT of liquid, so you may have lower energy and will likely need to frequent the toilet.

My day-by-day Advanced 3.6.9 Cleanse experience

Days 1-3 -

What I ate on days 1-3

  • 32 ounces of room temperature, filtered water with the juice of 1 whole lemon

  • 24 ounces of fresh celery juice

  • The Medical Medium Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie (see notes below)

  • 1 apple

  • Spinach Soup (see notes below for my variation)

  • Apple sauce

  • 32 ounces of filtered water

  • Cauliflower and Greens Bowl

  • 16 ounces of warm filtered water with the juice of 1 lemon and 1 tsp of raw honey

Notes for days 1-3

It was a lot of fluid to begin the day. I felt bloated on day 1 and overfull all 3 mornings. After day 1, I eliminated the morning apple (snack 1) and that helped reduce bloating.

I didn't like the taste of the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie, so I created two versions. See this post for the details.

Since I don't tolerate tomatoes, I made an approved variation of the Spinach Soup. I substituted tomatoes for thawed organic mango, left out the garlic and cucumber, and added a bit of cilantro. It was essentially a Mango Spinach Smoothie and tasted great. On day 3, I didn't thaw the mango and, using the same ingredients, made a creamy smoothie bowl. It was a delicious treat.

The Cauliflower and Greens Bowl is massive. Again, I left out the tomatoes. I also lightly steamed the asparagus to make them more digestible. Lastly, I combined the ginger (fresh not powder), juice of 1 orange, 1 date, the chili pepper flakes, and some filtered water to make a dressing.

Overall, days 1-3 went well. My energy and mood were good. Cravings and food focus increased a bit and sleep was more restless. I urinated frequently and eliminated more.

Days 4-6 -

Days 4-6 are similar to the first 3 days. The differences include increasing the morning celery juice from 24 to 32 ounces, and (for me) choosing the Liver Rescue Smoothie for lunches and the Kale Salad for dinners.

What I ate on days 4-6

  • 32 ounces of room temperature, filtered water with the juice of 1 whole lemon

  • 32 ounces of fresh celery juice

  • The Medical Medium Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie (see notes from days 1-3)

  • The Medical Medium Liver Rescue Smoothie

  • Apple sauce

  • 32 ounces of filtered water

  • Kale Salad

  • 16 ounces of warm filtered water with the juice of 1 lemon and 1 tsp of honey

Notes for days 4-6

The Liver Rescue Smoothie (option A in the book) was my favourite, so lunches were easy.

The Kale Salad was also good, though I started really craving warm food in the evenings by day 5. My slight variation to the salad was to substitute garlic (which I abhor) for fresh ginger and combine it with the orange juice, chili pepper flakes, dates, and some water to make a dressing (same as what I did for the Cauliflower and Greens Bowl, above). It was an 8/10 salad on day 4, 7/10 on day 5, and 4/10 by day 6.

By day 6, I was tired and felt more lethargic. Just plain BLAH. I thought this was a normal response to the cleansing process and was able to navigate it okay with extra self-care (writing, getting outside, going slower, and sleeping more). All of which I recommend, if you can. I continued to urinate frequently, but noticed a decrease in elimination.

Days 7-8 -

Again, days 7-8 are similar to the previous 3. The changes are adding a second 32 ounces of celery juice in mid-afternoon, and (for me) choosing the Cauliflower and Greens Bowl for dinners.

What I ate on days 7-8

  • 32 ounces of room temperature, filtered water with the juice of 1 whole lemon

  • 32 ounces of fresh celery juice

  • The Medical Medium Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie (see notes from days 1-3)

  • The Medical Medium Liver Rescue Smoothie

  • 24 ounces of fresh celery juice

  • Apple sauce

  • 32 ounces of filtered water

  • Cauliflower and Greens Bowl

  • 16 ounces of warm filtered water with the juice of 1 lemon and 1 tsp of honey

Notes for days 7-8

It's SO MUCH celery juice! I wasn't able to finish it all, so I opted for 24 ounces in the afternoons.

By day 7, I was feeling so done with raw food. This was the toughest day for me. I went to bed very early (8 p.m.) to avoid the evening. Day 8 was similar, but I was motivated to finish strong and was looking forward to day 9 (I love fruit).

I started sleeping more soundly, my mood lifted by the end of day 8, and my energy was pretty stable. I was feeling proud of myself for getting this far.

Days 9 -

I was ready for this day!.

What I "ate" on day 9

  • 32 ounces of room temperature, filtered water with the juice of 1 whole lemon

  • 32 ounces of fresh celery juice

  • 16 ounces of fresh cucumber apple juice

  • Blended watermelon

  • Papaya pudding

  • 32 ounces of celery juice

  • 16 ounces of cucumber apple juice

  • Pear sauce

  • 16 ounces of warm filtered water with the juice of 1 whole lemon and 1 tsp of honey

Notes for day 9

I felt great and found the juices and purees very satisfying. I tend to bloat when I consume a lot of fruit, but I didn't. I urinated even more, but otherwise elimination was actually less than normal.

Post-Cleanse Review

My body responded well to the cleanse. Going back to my symptoms from the beginning of this post, I did notice some positive changes. I lost belly fat, my brain fog disappeared, my forehead rash subsided, the swelling under my eye completely cleared, and overall I felt more energized and grounded at the same time. My sleep got worse before returning to baseline by day 8. No noticeable hair growth, but this wasn't surprising after only 9 days.

Some other unexpected but awesome changes appeared during the weeks following the cleanse. My flexibility improved. Noticeably. My joints felt more pliable and I recovered more quickly from exercise. I also continued to eat much less fat, and saw further loss of belly fat. Sleep improved until I started drinking Matcha in the mornings again.

I am so glad I did the cleanse. It isn't easy; however, it is doable. I will do it again, but not in the winter. Eating solely raw food during the cold and dry winter weather was an added challenge.

I will also incorporate some of the cleanse foods into my regular life (papaya pudding, who knew). Since doing the cleanse, I've tried some of the other recipes in the book. My favourites so far are:

  • Apple Cinnamon Smoothie

  • Caramel Apple Soft Serve

  • Wild Blueberry Porridge

  • Gluten-Free Banana Oat Cookies

  • Carrot Zucchini and Potato Paddies

  • Zucchini Lasagna

  • Mini Potato Pizza Cakes

I highly recommend the Advanced 3.6.9 Cleanse if you're feeling stuck or hopeless with your current health. It isn't a quick fix. Rather, it's a great reset or deepening of your healing journey.

The Free Download

To make preparation easier, I created a free download including a meal plan and shopping list based on my 9 days (as shared in this post). I hope it helps you. Check out the Cleanse to Heal book for the detailed instructions on the cleanse. Happy healing!
